Common Core State Standards
California’s Common Core Standards are designed to reflect the knowledge and skills that our children need for success in college and careers. A common set of learning goals helps teachers and parents ensure students are challenged and making appropriate progress. Adopted in California in August 2010, the K-12 Common Core State Standards were developed through a state-led effort to establish consistent and clear education standards for English language arts and mathematics. All children deserve opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts. The theme for the 2015-2016 school year is Let Your Imagination Fly. This theme—created by Rachel Sperry of Northwood, N.D.—was selected through the Reflections Theme Search Contest. When asked what inspired her theme, Rachel said, "I tell myself to let my imagination fly when writing and sketching." The theme helps Rachel to explore her imagination and she hopes it will inspire others to be creative. Please review the General Rules, the rules about Dance, Photography, Visual Arts, Film Production, Music Composition, Literature, and Special Artist. Print out the Student Entry Form to enter. With questions, please contact our 3rd VP of Education.
